...In Greek and Latin poetics, it was thought that a phonological step was caused by the arrangement of long and short syllables such as (daktylos), (spondeios), (anapaistos), (trochaios), and (iambos). In English poetics, it was thought that a phonological step was caused by the arrangement of strong and weak syllables such as ×× (dactyl), (spondee), ×× (anapæst), × (trochee), and × (iambus). In Chinese poetry, each word consisting of one syllable has a tone accent that goes from flat to absent, and the arrangement of the four tones creates a beautiful melody, and each word is considered to constitute a melody unit. In Japanese poetry, groups of five tones (hisakatano), seven tones (hikari nodokeki), or three tones (hikari) and four tones (nodokeki) can be considered to be phonobu.
