A powerful vassal family of the direct line of the Hojo clan (Tokuso) during the Kamakura period. The Kanmu Heishi clan. It began when Taira Moritsuna, the younger brother of Seki Sanetada, a vassal of Hojo Yasutoki, called himself Nagasaki. Moritsuna succeeded Bito Kagetsuna as steward of Hojo Yasutoki in 1234 (Bunreki 1), and served Tsunetoki and Tokiyori as well. His son Yoritsuna reached the height of his power as steward of the successors Tokimune and Sadatoki, and in 1285 (Kōan 8), he assassinated Adachi Yasumori, the most powerful vassal of the shogunate (Kōan War). However, his sole authority did not last long, and in 1293 (Einin 1), the clan fell into decline after being attacked by Sadatoki (Heizenmon Rebellion), and instead the descendants of Nagasaki Mitsutsuna, Yoritsuna's younger brother (some say nephew), rose to power.
