Kiyohide Nakagawa

A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Son of Nakagawa Shigekiyo. Childhood name Toranosuke, commonly known as Sebei. He first served Ikeda Katsumasa in Settsu, and in August 1572, he killed Wada Taremasa, lord of Takatsuki Castle in Settsu. Later, he served Oda Nobunaga, and became a subordinate of Araki Murashige, becoming lord of Ibaraki Castle in Settsu. In 1578, when Murashige rebelled against Nobunaga, he remained on Nobunaga's side, and in March of the same year, he also distinguished himself in the attack on Takeda Katsuyori. Immediately after Nobunaga was killed in the Honnoji Incident in June of the same year, he received a letter of intent from Toyotomi Hideyoshi stating that "Lord Nobunaga has escaped the siege and is safe," and was organized into the second vanguard of Hideyoshi's army in the Battle of Yamazaki, where he distinguished himself in battle. Thereafter, as a military commander on Hideyoshi's side, he defended Oiwayama (Yogo Town, Shiga Prefecture), which was considered the front line of Hideyoshi's side, during the Battle of Shizugatake in April of the following year, but was ambushed and killed by Sakuma Morimasa, a fierce general on Shibata Katsuie's side.

安土桃山時代の武将。中川重清の子。幼名虎之助,通称は瀬兵衛。はじめ摂津の池田勝正に仕え,元亀3(1572)年8月,摂津高槻城主和田惟政を討ち取っている。のち織田信長に仕えて荒木村重の配下に入り,摂津茨木城主となるが,天正6(1578)年,村重が信長に反旗をひるがえしたときにはそのまま信長方として残り,同10年3月の武田勝頼攻めでも戦功をあげだ。同年6月本能寺の変で信長が殺された直後,豊臣秀吉からの「信長殿は囲みを切りぬけて無事である」という謀書を受けとり,山崎の戦では秀吉方先鋒隊の二番に編成され,戦功をあげている。以後,秀吉方武将として,翌11年4月の近江賤ケ岳の戦には秀吉方最前線ともいうべき大岩山(滋賀県余呉町)を守り,柴田勝家方の猛将佐久間盛政に急襲され討死した。
