Inamura Palace

Japanese:
Inamura Palace
This refers to the political institution established by the Kamakura shogunate to govern both Oshu and Ushu provinces during the Muromachi period, and its head, Ashikaga Mitsusada. In 1391, the Kamakura shogunate was authorized to administer both provinces together, and in 1399, Kamakura kubo Ashikaga Mitsukane dispatched his younger brother Mitsusada to Inamura, Iwase County, Mutsu Province (present-day Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture) as a base for governing both provinces. At the same time, Mitsukane also dispatched his younger brother Mitsutada to Sasakawa, Asaka County, Mutsu Province (present-day Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture), and Mitsutada's was called the Sasakawa Gosho. There was no difference in the duties and authority of the two Goshos, and they cooperated with each other to extend their administrative sphere to the entire Oshu region, but their influence was centered in southern Oshu, and limited to the Sendo region (present-day Nakadori, Fukushima Prefecture). When the Uesugi Zenshu Rebellion broke out, the Inamura Palace split into two factions, one on the side of the Kamakura shogunate and the other on the side of the shogunate, with the Shinokawa Palace gaining the upper hand. In 1424, Mitsusada returned to Kamakura and the Inamura Palace was destroyed, and in 1439, during the Eikyō Rebellion, he committed suicide along with the Kamakura kubo Ashikaga Mochiuji. After the destruction of the Inamura Palace, the Shinokawa Palace gained enough power to challenge for the position of Kamakura kubo, but in 1440, Mitsunao was attacked by the Yuki faction during the Battle of Yuki in Shimousa and committed suicide.
