Monthly Novel Report - Shosetsu Geppo

A modern Chinese literary monthly magazine. Published by the Commercial Press. Since its launch in 1910, it has been a magazine of the "Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School" with literary-language-style playwrights under the editorship of Yun Shuju and Wang Yunzhang, but in January 1946 it was reorganized as a quasi-official magazine of the Literature Research Association, which had just been established at the time, and its content was revamped. Among the main works published in the early period were Xie Bingxin's "Superman," Ye Shaojun's "Diaphragm," and Xu Dishan's "The Bird of Life" and "The Spider that Builds a Nest," and it can be said that the common feature of the magazine was its strong interest in the lives of ordinary people. The main editor changed to Zheng Zhenduo (Ye Shaojun during Zheng's stay in Europe from 1927 to 1929) from 1923 onwards, but it continued to occupy a major position in Chinese literature in the 1920s as a representative literary magazine. In the second half of the 1920s, it also published works such as Lao She's "The Philosophy of Mr. Zhang," Ba Jin's "Destruction," and Ding Ling's "The Diary of Lady Shafei," and played a role in introducing these writers to the literary world. Publication ceased in January 1932 after the Commercial Press was bombed during the Shanghai Incident.

中国近代の月刊文芸誌。商務印書館発行。1910年創刊以後、主編惲樹珏、王蘊章で、文語による戯作(げさく)風の「鴛鴦蝴蝶派(えんおうこちょうは)」の雑誌であったが、21年1月、おりから発足した文学研究会の準機関誌に改組、内容を一新した。初期に掲載されたおもな作品に、謝冰心(しゃひょうしん／シエピンシン)『超人』、葉紹鈞(ようしょうきん／イエシャオジュン)『隔膜』、許地山(きょちさん／シュイディシャン)『命命鳥』『巣をつくる蜘蛛(くも)』などがあり、民衆の生活への強い関心を共通の特色とするといえる。主編は23年以降鄭振鐸(ていしんたく／チョンチェントゥオ)（1927～29年の鄭の渡欧中は葉紹鈞）に変わったが、その後も代表的文学雑誌として20年代の中国文学に大きな位置を占めた。20年代後半には老舎(ろうしゃ／ラオショー)『張さんの哲学』、巴金(はきん／パーチン)『滅亡』、丁玲(ていれい／ティンリン)『莎菲(シャーフェイ)女士の日記』なども発表され、これらの作家を文壇に送り出す役割も果たした。32年1月、上海(シャンハイ)事変で商務印書館が被爆したため停刊した。
