A plateau in the central-southern part of Hyogo Prefecture, covering the former Kako District. Bordered to the east by the Akashi River, to the west by the Kako River, and to the north by the Mino River, the area overlooks the Harimanada Sea to the south, stretching 20km from east to west and 10km from north to south. It is the western gateway to Kinai, and is referred to as Innamino in the Harima no Kuni Fudoki, and Innamino, Inamino, and Inabino in the Manyoshu. During the Heian period, it was a prohibited field. Due to poor irrigation conditions, cotton cultivation was the main crop during the Edo period, but it declined in the early Meiji period. With the completion of the Ogo River and Yamada River Canal in 1915 (Taisho 4), rice paddy cultivation progressed. The countless reservoirs, large and small, create a magnificent landscape.
