A general term for a group of birds in the Wagtail family. Slightly larger than a sparrow, with a long tail. There are 11 species of water birds in the world. Five species, the Grey Wagtail, White Wagtail, Grey Wagtail, Long-toed Lapwing, and Rock Wagtail, are found in Japan, and the first four breed in Japan. They walk along the water's edge to hunt for insects and wag their tails up and down. The Grey Wagtail is endemic to Japan.
