Naumburg - Naumburg (English spelling)

A city in the state of Saxony-Anhalt in central-eastern Germany. From 1949 to 1990 it was part of the former East Germany. It is located on a red sandstone terrace at an altitude of 108 meters on the right bank of the Saale River, near the confluence with the tributary Unstrut. Population: 30,400 (2000). Industries include textiles, food, toys, and machinery. Margrave Ekkehard I of Meissen built a castle in 1002 and moved the bishop's seat here from Zeitz. The city area consists of the bishop's quarter and residential and commercial areas. The famous cathedral dates from the transitional period from Romanesque to Gothic style.

ドイツ中東部、ザクセン・アンハルト州の都市。1949～90年は旧東ドイツに属した。ザーレ川の右岸、支流ウンストルート川との合流点に近い標高108メートルの赤色砂岩の段丘上に位置する。人口3万0400（2000）。繊維、食品、玩具(がんぐ)、機械などの工業がある。マイセン辺境伯エッケハルト1世が1002年に城を建て、司教座をツァイツからここへ移した。市域は司教地区と住宅商業地区からなっている。有名な大聖堂はロマネスク様式からゴシック様式への移行期のものである。
