A volcano in the Caucasus Mountains in the northern part of the Republic of Georgia. It is considered an extinct volcano, but fumes with a sulfurous smell can be seen. It is the border between North Ossetia and Georgia. It is 5,047 meters above sea level. The glacier area is about 81 km2 . It was first reached by an Englishman in 1868.
