Kaida

Japanese:
Kaida

The former village name (Kaida Village) was located in Kiso District, southwest of Nagano Prefecture. It currently occupies the northwest part of Kiso Town. In 2005, it merged with Kiso Fukushima Town, Hiyoshi Village, and Mitake Village to form Kiso Town. The former Kaida Village is an isolated mountain village at the northeastern foot of Mt. Ontake. It is located at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,200 meters above sea level on the Ontake volcano, and is about 40 minutes by bus from Kiso Fukushima Station on the JR Chuo Main Line to Nishino, including transfers. Due to transportation issues, negotiations were held with the Gifu Prefecture side rather than the Kiso Valley. In order to protect and raise the Kiso horses, the Kiso Horse Riding Center, which is a complex with other tourist facilities, has been opened. Currently, about 30 horses are bred. There is also a Kiso Horse Trekking Center. In addition to the Kaida Plateau, where there is a campsite, there is also the Kaida Local Museum, which exhibits documents from the end of the Edo period and Kiso horses, as well as a villa area and hot spring baths.
