…Most of the non-relative members were servants, nago (masterless servants), clerks, apprentices, etc. based on a contract, but there were also other roommates called iryo (lodgings). In many regions, iryo means an unexpected guest, and was called by folk vocabulary such as kannaido, kennaido, keinaiyatsu, and kenaido. Ke means "everyday" as opposed to "hare," and in the Yamato region in particular, kenaido means "a guest who comes uninvited to dine, etc.", and the presence of iryo was not something to be happy about. …
