Russian poet. In 1913, he declared "Acmeism" in reaction to the aesthetics of Symbolism. His representative collections of poems include "The Way of the Conqueror" (1905), "Romantic Flowers" (1908), "Pearls" (1910), "Foreign Skies" (1912), and "Bonfires" (1918). He was shot to death in 1921 for participating in a counter-revolutionary conspiracy. His only son with his wife AA Akhmatova, LN Gumilyov (1912-1992), was a geographer and ethnologist who advocated his own theory of ethnology.
