〘Noun〙 (Tholoide) A dome-shaped volcano formed when viscous lava erupts onto the ground. It is characterized by no visible crater at the summit, steep slopes on the mountainside, and a short base. An example is Mount Komagatake in Hakone. A bell-shaped volcano. 〘名〙 (Tholoide) 粘性の大きな溶岩が地上に噴出して生じたドーム状の火山。山頂に火口が見えず、山腹の傾斜が大きく、すそ野が短いのが特徴。箱根の駒ケ岳などがその例。鐘状火山。溶岩円頂丘。※旅‐昭和一八年（1943）終刊号・南方の冨士に似た山〈辻村太郎〉「所謂トロイデ型や鐘状火山の趣を示して居る」
