The Trudoviks were a faction in the Duma (parliament) of late Imperial Russia, established in April 1906 as a concession by Tsarism to the 1905 Revolution, and referred to as the working group. Made up of Narodnik-style democratic peasant and intellectual deputies, the faction had 107 deputies in the First Duma and 104 in the Second Duma, but with the revision of the electoral law in 1907, the number of deputies from the faction dropped sharply to 14 in the Third Duma and 10 in the Fourth Duma. Politically, the Trudoviks demanded popular sovereignty, universal suffrage, and civil liberties. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
