A shrimp of the family Coccidae in the class Crustacea that lives in the body cavity of the hexactinellid sponges. It is about 3 cm long, with the females being larger. The carapace is soft, smooth, and white and translucent. The rostrum is slightly shorter than half the length of the cephalothorax, with 8 to 10 spines on the upper edge and 3 to 4 spines near the tip of the lower edge. The first three pairs of thoracic legs form a pair of pincers, with the third pair being particularly large. Coccida sponges have bone fragments arranged in a lattice pattern, and the inside is like a hollow cage. The Coccidae that live here usually come in pairs, male and female, and are thought to enter the sponge as planktonic larvae or immediately after metamorphosing into juvenile shrimp, and spend their entire lives there.
