A river in southwestern France. It originates in the Puy de Sancy mountain, flows westward, and empties into the Gironde River north of Bordeaux. It is 472 km long. There are many hydroelectric power plants in the upper reaches, and grape growing areas in the lower reaches. Water transportation is active as far as Bergerac.
