The word "Catholicism" can mean Catholic Christianity or the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church itself, in contrast to Protestantism and Greek Orthodoxy, but here it is interpreted in accordance with today's more common usage as a cultural and ideological activity that is internally connected to the teachings of the Catholic Church, that is, the content of faith, but is distinct from it. In this sense, Catholicism is sometimes understood as an "ideology" that confronts secular liberalism and individualism, and anti-religious Marxism.
