1612‐50 A member of the imperial family, politician and soldier of the early Qing Dynasty. Prince Rui. The 14th son of Emperor Taizu Nurhaci. Younger brother of Emperor Taizong. During the reign of Emperor Taizong, he participated in campaigns against the Chahar people of Inner Mongolia and Korea, as well as the siege of Jinzhou in Liaoxi, and was given the title of Mergendaichin (meaning wise) for his military achievements, and was enfeoffed as Prince Heshuo Rui. When Emperor Taizong died in 1643, a dispute arose over his succession, but he supported Emperor Shunzhi, Emperor Taizong's sixth son, who was still a child, and became regent together with Prince Zheng Jirgalan as regents. However, he soon subdued Jirgalan and played an active role as the most powerful man in the country, managing the various political situations before and after entering the country.
