Iakchos

Japanese: イアッコス（英語表記）Iakchos

Ancient Greek god. He was the deification of the chant uttered by the initiates in the Eleusinian Mysteries during the procession from Athens to Eleusis. He was believed to be the son of Zeus and Demeter or Persephone, and was associated with the great goddesses who were the chief deities of the Mysteries. He was also considered to be the reincarnation of the Orphic god Zagreus, and was identified with Dionysus. He was believed to lead the procession of the believers in the form of an infant, carrying a torch in his hand and dancing.

古代ギリシアの神。エレウシスの密儀で，入信者たちがアテネからエレウシスまで行列しながらあげるかけ声の神格化された存在で，ゼウスがデメーテルまたはペルセフォネに生ませた子とされて，密儀の主神である大女神たちと結びつけられ，またオルフェウス教の神ザグレウスの生れ変りともみなされ，ディオニュソスとも同一視された。幼児の姿で手にたいまつを持ち，踊りながら信徒たちの列を導くと信じられた。
