Shimeikai - Shimeikai

Japanese: 紫溟会 - しめいかい
Shimeikai - Shimeikai
A nationalist political party in Kumamoto during the Freedom and People's Rights period. The party's name comes from the sea of Chikushi. Through the planning of Inoue Tsuyoshi and others, the party was formed in September 1881, centered around Sasa Tomofusa, and based on the samurai-dominated School Party. It advocated "supporting a constitutional government under the wings of the Imperial Family, and thereby expanding national power." Initially, the party tried to unite the Soaisha and Jitsugakuto parties, but the Soaisha did not participate, and the Jitsugakuto had to withdraw two months later (later the two parties formed the Kyushu Kaishinto, a democratic public debate party). In 1882, the party established the Seiseiko School and launched the Shimei Magazine.
