A branch of the ancient Greek people. Also known as the Dorians. They spoke the Doric dialect. They were thought to have migrated south from the Balkans to Greece around 1200-1100 BCE with their Iron Age culture, destroyed the Mycenaean civilization, and founded Sparta, but this has been questioned in recent years. They lived throughout the Peloponnese, and later migrated to Crete and the southern west coast of Asia Minor (Dorian region). → Related articles Aeolians | Cyrene | Perioikoi | Messenia Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
