An-qing jun-xie-suo; An-ch`ing chün-hsieh-so
A munitions factory established in Anqing, Anhui Province, China in 1861 by Zeng Guofan. During the Arrow War, Zeng Guofan was forced to urgently supply weapons and ammunition to counter Western countries and suppress the Taiping army, so he began construction of a munitions factory. However, he did not employ Western engineers, and instead left the operation and technology of the factory entirely to Chinese people, so many of the weapons produced were of poor quality and are said to have been useless in actual combat.
