Japanese: 座金 - ざがね（英語表記）washer

A part that is placed between a bolt, nut, or small screw and the object being tightened. The contact area is increased, and the bolt or nut can turn more easily, improving the tightening effect. Also, if it is given a spring action or has a claw, it can be used effectively to prevent screws from loosening. There are the following main types. (1) Flat washer: A flat washer with a hole in the center, which is the most widely used. (2) Spring washer: A square wire is wound into a coil and each turn is cut off. The spring action increases the effectiveness of preventing screws from loosening. (3) Toothed washer: A washer with teeth on the inside and outside circumference, twisted into a spring. It is likely to damage objects, but its effectiveness in preventing loosening is greater than that of (2). (4) Disc spring washer: A disc-shaped spring washer. It can withstand large tightening forces.
