〘 noun 〙① A person who creates a work of art such as a poem, piece of writing, painting, or sculpture. In ancient times, it also referred to people who create things in general. ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 1, 53, left note: "The author of the above poem is unknown ." ※Yomihon, Tsubakisetsu Yumiharigetsu (1807-11), Collections: "In the end, the author's (sakusha's) efforts are so great that we cannot explain them all." [Riji - Rakuki]② A poet who has been selected to be included in imperial anthologies. ※Fukuro-soshi (around 1157-59), vol. 1: "Nyudo, Kii Nyudo Soi, perhaps the author of the later Collections"③ A person who writes a script, particularly a person who creates a play, Kyogen. ※Sarugaku-dangi (1430), Noh Writing Style, Part 3: "This is a Noh that was published in a new book. It is said to exist in the three arts, but it has an author."④ A person who plans.
