A former town in Kamo District, central Hiroshima Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Mukunashi River, a tributary of the Nuta River, and is located in a mountain basin in the western part of the Kibi Plateau. The town produces rice, local vegetables such as burdock, and tobacco leaves, and also engages in dairy farming. It also produces matsutake mushrooms. There are also factories that manufacture agricultural machinery and automobile parts. In February 2005, it was incorporated into Higashihiroshima City along with Kurose Town, Fukutomi Town, and Kawachi Town in Kamo District, and Akitsu Town in Toyota District. 72.56 km2 .
