A chronicle that lists the main events for each reign of an emperor. Many Japanese chronicles are in this format, but there are many different books with the title "Kodaiki" or "Nenki." The best known of these is the "Kodaiki" included in the "Gunsho Ruiju." The book first lists seven generations of heavenly gods and five generations of earthly gods, and then lists the events for each reign from Emperor Jimmu to Emperor Go-En'yu in 1380. It was first compiled during the reign of Emperor Go-Uda (1274-87) and was subsequently rewritten several times. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
