Flying God Mei

Japanese: 飛神明 - とびしんめい

The spirit of the Ise Grand Shrine appeared and was enshrined as a shrine. Such shrines were often called Ima Shinmei. It was first seen in February 1407 (Oei 14) in Wakasa Shiratsubaki Kamiya, and in the 10th year it was called Ima Shinmei (Ima Tomina Ryoushu Daidai Shidai). The Shinmei of Yamashiro Uji was an appearance, as it is described in the Kyogen play Ima Shinmei as "the Shinmei was sent flying." In 1403 (Eikyo 10), the Grand Shrine submitted a letter of permission to prohibit the enshrinement of such shrines in and around Kyoto.

伊勢神宮の神霊が影向（ようごう）し神社としてまつられたもの。その神社は今神明と呼ばれることが多かった。初見は1407年(応永14)2月の若狭白椿上谷に影向があり，10年に今神明と称されたものである(《今富名領主代々次第》)。山城宇治の神明は，狂言《今神明》に〈神明の飛ばせられ〉とあり，影向であった。神宮は洛中洛外のこうした神宮の勧請（かんじよう）を禁止するよう38年(永享10)に解状を提出している。
