O'Sullivan (1840-1982), are famous for recording the landscapes of the American West during the pioneering era. In 1872, at the request of Leland Stanford (former Governor of California), he created a special photosensitive plate and exposure device to settle a controversy over whether a horse's four legs leave the ground when it runs, and succeeded in taking high-speed instantaneous photographs, proving that its four legs leave the ground. …
