Zhang Jiuling

A famous Prime Minister of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, China. Born in Qujiang, Shaozhou (Canton). His pen name was Zi Shou, and he was known as a natural history scholar. He was a man of literary talent, and at the age of 25, he was promoted by the literary Prime Minister Zhang Shuo. During the Left Collection of the Left, when ministers presented a precious mirror to Emperor Xuanzong on his birthday, he presented him with a set of ten chapters on admonishing the precepts, entitled "The Records of a Thousand Autumns and Golden Mirrors," to demonstrate his sincerity as a remonstrant. In 733, he was appointed Minister of the Secretariat of the Ministry of the Secretariat of the People's Court, and the following year he was promoted to the position of Minister of the Secretariat of the People's Court, replacing Zhang Shuo, and was given the title of Man of Qujiang County. He was known as a strong-willed man at court, and opposed the appointment of the imperial court's Li Linfu and the military officer Niu Xianke, and tried to remonstrate with the emperor, but his words were not heard. Later, as Li Linfu's influence increased, he was demoted. He excelled in classical poetry and prose, and left behind 20 volumes of anthologies, including his poem "Gan Gu" (Encounter with Feelings), which was included in the "Selection of Tang Poetry" and became a widely known poem.
