Japanese: シワ - しわ（英語表記）Siwa

An oasis town located in the center of the Libyan Desert in western Egypt. It has about 3,500 inhabitants. It was probably called Tha or Thay in ancient Egypt. According to the Yakut geography book, it was called Santarīya in the Middle Ages, and is the westernmost oasis town in Egypt, with most of the inhabitants being Berbers. In addition to being a town in the desert, the town is unique in that it is about 30 meters below sea level, and there are many salt lakes scattered around the area, forming a large lowland area.

エジプト西部，リビア砂漠の中央部に位置するオアシスの町。住民は約3500人。古代エジプトではタThaもしくはタイThayと呼ばれていたらしい。ヤークートの地理書によると，中世にはサンタリーヤSantarīyaと呼ばれ，エジプト最西端のオアシス都市で，住民のほとんどはベルベルであると記されている。砂漠の中の町としてのほかに，この町は海面下約30mという特徴があり，付近にはたくさんの塩湖が散在し，大低地地帯を形成している。
