Sanehira Doi - Sanehira Doi

Years of birth and death unknown. A military commander from the end of the Heian period to the beginning of the Kamakura period. Originally read as " Dohisanehira ." A descendant of Taira Takamochi, son of Nakamura Shoji Munehira. Based in Toi-go, Ashinoshimo County, Sagami Province (Yugawara Town, Manazuru Town, Kanagawa Prefecture), he called himself Doi Jiro. In 1180 (Jisho 4), he participated in the uprising of Minamoto no Yoritomo, and after the defeat at Ishibashiyama, he helped Yoritomo escape from Cape Manazuru to Awa, laying the groundwork for his revival. Since then, he was highly valued by Yoritomo, and fought bravely in the conquest of the Satake clan, Kiso Yoshinaka, and the Taira clan. In 84 (Genryaku 1), he was appointed as the Sotsuibushi (general pursuer) of Bizen, Bitchu, and Bingo provinces. The following year, when the Taira clan was defeated at Dannoura, he escorted the captured Taira Munemori and others to Kyoto, and was also in charge of guarding the capital immediately after the fall of Minamoto no Yoshitsune. However, he died between 91 and 95 (Kenkyu 2-6).

生没年不詳。平安末・鎌倉初期の武将。本来は「どひさねひら」と読む。平高望(たかもち)の後裔(こうえい)、中村荘司宗平(むねひら)の息。相模(さがみ)国足下(あしのしも)郡土肥郷（神奈川県湯河原(ゆがわら)町、真鶴(まなづる)町）を本拠とし土肥次郎と称す。1180年（治承4）源頼朝(よりとも)の挙兵に参加、石橋山(いしばしやま)の敗戦後、頼朝を真鶴岬から安房(あわ)に逃し、再起のもとをつくった。以来頼朝に重用され、佐竹(さたけ)氏・木曽義仲(きそよしなか)・平氏征討に奮戦。84年（元暦1）には備前(びぜん)・備中(びっちゅう)・備後(びんご)国の惣追捕使(そうついぶし)に任ず。翌年平氏が壇ノ浦に滅ぶと、捕虜平宗盛(むねもり)らを京都に護送、源義経(よしつね)没落直後の洛中(らくちゅう)警衛の任にもあたったが、91～95年（建久2～6）に死亡した。
