Herschel, J.

...A photographic method that uses the photosensitivity of iron(III) salts, also known as cyanotype. Invented in 1842 by the British John Herschel (1792-1871), it was widely used until around 1950 to reproduce blueprints for civil engineering, architecture, machinery, and other fields. Blueprint photosensitive paper is made by dissolving iron(III) salts such as iron(III) chloride, ammonium iron(III) oxalate, and ammonium iron(III) citrate in water together with potassium ferricyanide (red ferricyanide) on paper, then coating it and drying it. ...

From [False and Misinformation]

…There is a difference between presenting fiction as real news and mixing fiction, whether good or bad, in specific cases, but it is difficult to draw a line between the two, and in everyday language, they are generally lumped together under the term misinformation. One famous misinformation in journalism history is the Moon Hoax, a serial story published in August 1835 by the New York tabloid newspaper The Sun, which claimed that astronomer John Herschel had made a major discovery using his state-of-the-art giant telescope, and claimed that there were bat-like (man-bat) creatures on the moon. … …
