Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force
The Self-Defense Forces are tasked with defending the waters around Japan and ensuring the safety of maritime traffic. They are units and organizations supervised by the Maritime Staff Office and the Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff and the Chief of Staff of the Maritime Staff. They possess and operate ships and aircraft, and carry out patrols, escorts, and defense operations. The Japan Coast Guard, established within the Japan Coast Guard in April 1952, became the National Safety Agency Guard in August of the same year, and in July 1954, the Maritime Self-Defense Forces came under the jurisdiction of the Defense Agency under the Self-Defense Forces Act and the Defense Agency Establishment Act. In January 2007, the Defense Agency was elevated to the Ministry of Defense, and it came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense. The Maritime Self-Defense Forces are made up of the Self-Defense Fleet, Regional Fleets, Air Training Group, and Training Fleet. The Self-Defense Fleet is made up of the Escort Fleet, Air Group, Submarine Fleet, and Minesweeping Group, while the Regional Fleets are made up of the Regional Headquarters, Escort Fleets, Minesweeping Fleets, Base Fleets, and Air Wings. Japan and the surrounding sea areas are divided into five patrol districts: Ominato, Maizuru, Yokosuka, Kure, and Sasebo, and the regional units under each regional headquarters are responsible for defense, security, and logistical support such as supplies and repairs. The schools include the Officer School, Officer Candidate School, 1st Technical School, 2nd Technical School, 3rd Technical School, and 4th Technical School.

日本周辺海域の防衛と海上交通の安全確保を任務とする自衛隊。海上幕僚監部ならびに統合幕僚長および海上幕僚長の監督を受ける部隊および機関。艦艇および航空機を保有・運用し,哨戒,護衛,防衛のための作戦などを行なう。 1952年4月海上保安庁のなかに創設された海上警備隊が同年8月に保安庁警備隊になり,1954年7月には自衛隊法と防衛庁設置法によって防衛庁所管の海上自衛隊となった。 2007年1月防衛庁の防衛省昇格により防衛省所管となる。海上自衛隊の部隊は自衛艦隊,地方隊,教育航空集団,練習艦隊などからなる。自衛艦隊は護衛艦隊,航空集団,潜水艦隊,掃海隊群などで,地方隊は地方総監部および護衛隊,掃海隊,基地隊,航空隊などでそれぞれ構成される。日本および周辺海域は大湊,舞鶴,横須賀,呉,佐世保の五つの警備区に分けられ,それぞれの地方総監部のもとに置かれる地方隊が防衛,警備のほか,補給,造修などの後方支援にあたる。学校には,幹部学校,幹部候補生学校,第1術科学校,第2術科学校,第3術科学校,第4術科学校がある。
