Kabuki dance. Kiyomoto. Lyrics by Sakurada Jisuke II. Music by Kiyosawa Mankichi. Choreography by Fujima Kansuke and others. One of the nine transformation dances "Onnagori Oshie no Mazehari" that was first performed by Nakamura Utaemon III at the Nakamuraza in Edo in September 1819 (Bunsei 2). The dance is based on the caricature "Toba-e" named after Toba Sojo, who is said to be the originator of manga. It is a dance version of a scene in which a half-naked servant chases a mouse with a measuring cup, and a pestle with wings grows and flies. It incorporates the totchiriton and nagebushi styles that were popular at the time, and includes a humorous kudoki in which a stuffed animal mouse pretends to be a woman and the servant Masuroku responds by turning into a cat, and ends with a pose that resembles Otokonosuke from "Yukashita" in "Sendaihagi." It is a light, rhythmic dance full of wit. [Toshiaki Matsui] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
