Tone Ozeki

This is a water intake weir on the Tone River, located in the midstream of the Tone River, between Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture and Chiyoda Town, Oura County, Gunma Prefecture. It was completed in 1968. It was built as the core of the Tone Waterway Project, which aims to regulate the water volume downstream of the Tone River, secure water for agricultural use, supply urban water to Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture, and purify the water quality of the Arakawa River. It is a movable weir consisting of 12 gates. It has a total length of 691.7 meters, a movable section of 495.4 meters, a width of the intake opening of 127 meters, and an intake volume of 137 cubic meters per second. Of this, it takes in 85 cubic meters per second for the Minumadai Irrigation Canal, Saitama Irrigation Canal, and Oura Irrigation Canal, 42 cubic meters per second for the water supply system for Tokyo and Saitama, and 10 cubic meters per second for purifying the Arakawa River. The Musashi Ohashi Bridge is located above the dam, allowing automobiles to travel across it, facilitating traffic on both sides of the Tone River.
