Song of the Earth - Daichi no Uta
Composed in 1908, it was premiered in 1911, shortly after the composer's death, under the direction of B. Walter. It is a six-movement work with soloists for alto (or baritone) and tenor, and the poems were selected from Chinese poems by Li Bai, Meng Haoran, Wang Wei, and others, translated by Hans Bethge (1876-1946). The odd-numbered movements are for tenors, and the even-numbered movements are for altos. Along with Symphony No. 9 (1909-1910, premiered in 1912), which was also premiered by Walter, this work can be said to be the final work of Mahler's career. Later, Zemlinsky wrote the seven-movement Lyric Symphony (1923) with a similar arrangement (with soprano and baritone soloists). → Symphony No. 9 / Mandolin → Related items Ferrier | Wunderlich

《Das Lied von der Erde》。
