…This law was enacted as a systematic law that determines the management body of the coast, restrictions on activities on the coast, standards for constructing coastal protection facilities, compensation for losses, and cost sharing. This law applies only to coastal protection areas designated by prefectural governors when they deem it necessary to achieve the purpose of this law. In principle, this designation is made within an area not exceeding 50m from the water's edge at high tide on the vernal equinox on land, and 50m from the water's edge at low tide on the vernal equinox on water. …
