A perennial plant of the Primulaceae family. It is native to North America and has about 30 species. Its Japanese name is Katakurimodoki. It is not widely cultivated in Japan, but species such as D. meadia L. (English names: shooting star, American cowslip, prairie pointer), D. patulum Greene (= D. clevelandii Greene ssp. patulum (Greene) Thomps.), D. hendersonii A. サクラソウ科の多年草。原産地はおもに北アメリカで約30種があり，和名をカタクリモドキという。園芸的には日本ではあまり栽培されてはいないが，ドデカテオン･メアディアD.meadia L.(英名shooting star,American cowslip,prairie pointer)，ドデカテオン･パトゥルムD.patulum Greene(＝D.clevelandii Greene ssp.patulum (Greene) Thomps.)，ドデカテオン･ヘンデルソニイD.hendersonii A.Gray，ドデカテオン･アルピヌムD.alpinum Greene（イラスト）などが山草として栽植される。
