…After working as a horse trainer and a lithographer, he studied painting under J. Guichard and exhibited his first work at the Salon (official exhibition) in 1852. In 1859, he married Marie Quivoron (1841-1916). She was a pupil of Ingres, and after exhibiting her first work at the Salon in 1874, she participated in the Fourth Impressionist Exhibition (1879), and became famous as one of the female Impressionist painters along with Cassatt and Morisot. …
