It is a type of woolen fabric, but in Japan worsted yarn is used. The name doeskin comes from its resemblance to the fur of a female doe. It is generally made from woolen yarn made from merino wool, woven in a five-ply satin weave, then dyed, shrunk, and brushed, and the pile is sheared short and turned to one side to give the surface a doeskin finish (also called a beaver finish) that is smooth and pleasant to the touch. It is usually dyed solid black. It is mainly used for formal wear, suits, uniforms, and women's suits.
