Aurora is the goddess of dawn in Greek mythology. Her Roman name is Aurora. She is the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia, and is a companion of the sun god Helios and the moon god Selene. She is also the wife of fellow Titan Astraeus, and is considered the mother of the wind and stars. She rides in a chariot drawn by two horses named Lampos (light) and Phaethon (shining one), and races across the sky every morning, announcing the appearance of the sun god Helios. She incurred the wrath of Aphrodite by having intercourse with the war god Ares, and as punishment, she fell in love with many young men from the world, including Orion, Cephalos, Tithonus, and Cleitos. With her husband Astraeus, she gave birth to children such as the wind god Zephyrus, Notus, Boreas, and the morning star. Poets praised her as "the goddess with rosy fingers" and "the goddess clad in saffron."
