Basi Thermograph

Japanese: バシサーモグラフ

It is a torpedo-shaped instrument that is lowered on a wire from a stationary or slowly moving ship to measure the vertical distribution of water temperature. The principle is that a pen that moves at a right angle according to the water temperature records the change in water temperature on a recording slide that moves according to the water pressure (depth). Recently, XBTs that can be observed from ships traveling at high speed have been developed and their use has increased, so to distinguish them, they are often called MBTs (Mechanical Bathythermographs). 魚雷型の測器で、停止または低速で航行中の船からワイヤーで下ろされ、水温の鉛直分布を測定する。原理は水圧（水深）に応じて移動する記録スライド上に、水温に応じて直角方向に動くペンで水温の変化を記録するもの。最近では、高速航行中の船舶から観測し得るXBTが開発され、その使用頻度が増してきたため、それと区別するために、MBT (Mechanical Bathythermograph)と呼ぶことが多い。（永田）
