Toshima

An island in the Izu Islands that belongs to the Oshima Branch Office of Tokyo. There is one island and one village with an area of ​​4.12 square kilometers. The island is a troide-shaped volcanic island with steep slopes, with Mt. Miyatsuka (508 meters) at its center, and the settlement is located on the foreshore on the northern slope of the mountain. There is no groundwater and the people live entirely on rainwater. Approximately 60% of the island is covered by camellia forests, and it is the source of high-quality camellia oil, but the area has been in decline recently. Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries are all in decline. There are regular ships that call on the island from Tokyo, Shimoda, and other places. Population 284 (2009).

東京都大島支庁に属する伊豆諸島のなかの島。1島1村で面積4.12平方キロメートル。島は宮塚(みやつか)山（508メートル）を中心とする急傾斜面をもつトロイデ型の火山島で、集落は北側の山腹斜面の前浜に立地している。地下水が得られず完全な天水依存の生活である。全島の約60％はツバキ林で、良質の椿油(つばきあぶら)の原産地であるが、最近は斜陽化している。農・林・水産業のいずれも不振である。船便は、東京、下田などからの定期船が寄航する。人口284（2009）。
