Independent Labour Party

A British political party. Abbreviated as ILP. It was founded in January 1893 in Bradford with Keir Hardie as its leader. It is a socialist organization that unites independent Labour parties from around the country, and is ideologically somewhere between the Fabian Society and the Social Democratic League. Later, aiming to form an independent political party for the working class, it formed the Committee of Labour Representatives (the predecessor of the Labour Party) (1900) together with representatives of the above two organizations and trade unions, and was part of that organization. It played an important role within the Labour Party even after its formation (1906), and produced important Labour Party leaders such as MacDonald, Snowden, and Henderson.

Due to its pacifist attitude at the beginning of World War I, the party grew in influence after the war, but after MacDonald's first Labour government was formed (1924), it came to form a "left-wing" opposition faction within the Labour Party, and in July 1932 it left the party. Its political party status subsequently declined, before rejoining in 1947.

イギリスの政党。略称ILP。1893年1月、ブラッドフォードでケア・ハーディを指導者として結成された。各地の独立の労働党を糾合したもので、思想的にはフェビアン協会と社会民主連盟の中間に位置する社会主義的組織である。その後、労働者階級の独立した政党の結成を目ざし、前記の二組織および労働組合の代表とともに、労働党の前身である労働者代表委員会を結成し（1900）、その一翼を構成した。労働党結成（1906）後もその内部において重要な役割を果たし、マクドナルド、スノーデン、ヘンダーソンら労働党の重要な指導者を輩出した。

　第一次世界大戦初期の平和主義的態度から戦後は勢力を伸長させたが、マクドナルドによる第一次労働党内閣が成立（1924）してからは、労働党内の「左翼」的反対派を形成するようになり、1932年7月労働党から脱退、その後政党としては衰退し、47年ふたたび労働党に戻った。
