Also called a force multiplier. A type of link mechanism (link device) used to obtain a large force with a small operating force. For the same amount of work, if the speed of the part doing the work is high, the force obtained will be small, and conversely, if the speed is low, the force will be large. Therefore, in a toggle mechanism, the movement of the part that produces the force is usually made significantly smaller, which can be achieved by selecting the length of each link appropriately. An example of a toggle mechanism is shown in the figure. A is used in machines that cut metal plates by hand, and Q is a much larger force than P , which is the operating force. 倍力機構ともいう。リンク機構(リンク装置)の一種で,小さな操作力で大きな力を得るのに用いられる機構。同じ仕事量を与えた場合,仕事をする部分の速度が大きければ得られる力は小さくなるし,逆に速度が小さければ力は大である。したがって,トグル機構では,力を出す部分の動きは著しく小さくなるようになっているのがふつうで,各リンクの長さを適当に選ぶことにより実現できる。トグル機構の例を図に示したが,aは金属板などを手の力によって切断する機械などに使われ,操作力Pに比べQはこれよりかなり大きい力になる。
