Doctor Zhivago

Japanese: ドクトル・ジバゴ(英語表記)Doktor Zhivago
Doctor Zhivago
A full-length novel by Soviet poet Pasternak. Completed between 1954 and 1956, it was rejected by Novy Mir (New World) magazine in 1956, and published the following year by the Italian publisher Feltrinelli. In 1958, in connection with the author's award of the Nobel Prize in Literature, a major campaign was launched in the Soviet Union against the work's "counter-revolutionary nature," which became a worldwide topic. Set in the turbulent times of about a quarter century from the eve of the Russian Revolution of 1905, the novel's external plot revolves around the love affairs of the protagonist Yuri Zhivago, an honest doctor who seeks to remain in the world of the individual's inner freedom, and his wife Tonya and Lara, a woman who symbolizes eternal Russia.
