Dehiwala‐Mount Lavinia

Located on the west coast of Sri Lanka, this city is adjacent to the capital Colombo to the south. With a population of 196,000 (1990), it is the second largest in the country, but the daytime population is small due to many commuters to Colombo. With its beautiful beaches and close to the capital, it has been a tourist destination since the British colonial period. In recent years, tourist hotels have continued to be built. The Dehiwala Zoo is well maintained and serves as Sri Lanka's animal research center. It is becoming a commuter town year by year, but light industries such as textiles, food, and ceramics, as well as the manufacturing of handicrafts for tourists, are also increasing.

スリランカの西海岸に位置し，首都コロンボの南に隣接する都市。人口は19万6000(1990)で，国内で第2位を占めるが，コロンボへの通勤者が多く，昼間人口は少ない。海浜が美しく，首都に近い海水浴場として，イギリス領時代から観光地化していた。近年も観光ホテルの増設が続いている。デヒワラ動物園はよく整備されていて，スリランカの動物研究センターとなっている。年々ベッドタウン化しつつあるが，繊維工業，食品工業，窯業などの軽工業や，観光客向けの手工芸品の製造業も増加している。
