Kabuki kyogen. Historical piece. 5 acts, 12 scenes. Commonly known as "Badarai no Mitsuhide." The current title is "Toki ni maki kiyou no hataage (Raising the bellflower flag)." Written by Tsuruya Nanboku IV (during his time as Katsu Tawarazo). First performed at Edo Ichimuraza in July 1808 (Bunka 5). Based on earlier joruri works such as "Gion Matsuri Shinkoki," "Mika Taiheiki," and "Ehon Taikoki," this dramatized work (Taiko Kimono) focuses on the events leading up to Takechi Mitsuhide's (Akechi Mitsuhide's) assassination of his lord Oda Harunaga (Oda Nobunaga) at Honnoji Temple. The prologue consists of five scenes, from the Gion Shrine worship hall to the temporary banquet palace. The scene in front of the gate of the temporary banquet palace shows Mitsuhide becoming suspicious of the spider's behavior, and the scene in the temporary banquet palace shows Harunaga having Ranmaru split Mitsuhide's forehead with an iron fan.
