Mae Nam River (English spelling)

Japanese: メナム[川]（英語表記）Mae Nam River

It is the largest river in Thailand, with a total length of about 1,200 km. The name Menam (Menam means "river") was coined by foreigners, but Thais call it the Chao Phraya River. Tributaries such as the Ping, Wang, Yom, and Nan rivers originating in the mountains of the northern region join at Pak Nam Pho in Nakhon Sawan Province, and the downstream is called the Chao Phraya River. From Chai Nat, it branches off into the Suphan Buri (Tha Chin), Noi, and Lop Buri rivers, forming the vast Chao Phraya Delta before flowing into the Gulf of Thailand.

タイ第1の河川で，全長約1200km。メナム川(メナムは〈川〉の意)の呼称は外国人によるもので，タイ人はチャオプラヤー川Chao Phraya Riverと呼ぶ。北部地方の山地に発するピン川，ワン川，ヨム川，ナン川などの支流が，ナコーンサワン県のパークナムポーで合流し，ここから下流をチャオプラヤー川と呼んでいる。チャイナート付近からはスパンブリー(ターチーン)川，ノーイ川，ロッブリー川などを分流し，広大なチャオプラヤー･デルタを形成しつつタイ湾に注ぐ。
