Ahriman - Ahriman (English spelling)

Also called Ahriman. Medieval Persian name of Angra Mainyu, the dark spirit in Zoroastrianism. He is opposed to Ahura Mazda (Ohrmazd), the god of light, and represents the opposite concept. While Ahura Mazda is the personification of goodness and wisdom, Ahriman's nature is evil and ignorance. Due to his ignorance, he created all evil things as a means of fighting Ahura Mazda.

アーリマンともいわれた。ゾロアスター教における暗黒の霊アングラ・マインユの中世ペルシア語名。光明神アフラ・マズダー（オフルマズド）と対立し、反対の概念を表す。アフラ・マズダーが善や知恵の神格化であるのに対し、アフリマンは邪悪や無知をその性質としている。無知ゆえに、アフラ・マズダーと戦う手段として、あらゆる邪悪なものを創造した。
